THE KANO MASSACRE: Govt, security agencies are cupable

 THE KANO MASSACRE News Update

President of the Kano State Chapter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Tobias Michael Idika, has alleged that high government officials and security agencies are benefitting from the terrorist acts by members of the Boko Haram in parts of the north and would therefore want the crisis to continue.

Chief Idika, who is also the President-General of leaders of ethnic communities resident in Kano State in an interview  did not spare northern politicians as well as religious leaders and traditional rulers in what he described as blackmail to ensure the violent attacks do not come to an end.

According to him, “the Nigerian government has not shown sincerity in the fight against terrorism. So many people within the government and security agencies that want this trend to continue is because they are reaping from it. Who are the Boko Harams? Who are their sponsors? The Federal Government has answers to this question, and if they mean it, these killers would be rounded up in a matter of minutes”

Chief Idika who also blamed the northern leaders for the crisis said, “every right-thinking Nigerian who witnesses the killing of innocent citizens must have reservations. I sense a high level of compromise, connivance and blackmail. Some northern politicians want these killings to continue, using it as a bargain for power. What pains me so much is that they are hiding under the cloak of religion to perpetrate this evil in the country.

“The culprits are politicians, religious leaders and traditional rulers, including me and you because we have failed to properly educate the society, particularly, the youths; rather we use them to perpetrate evil for our own personal aggrandizement. I only pray that God will forgive us. As far as I am concerned, Boko Haram is a creation of bitter politics in this country.

“Let me state this words clearly—if they continue to allow this kind of carnage in Sabon Gari, the resultant consequent will be deadly. Kano state government should do everything humanly possible to protect lives and property of Nigerians here. If the state government cannot do it, the Federal Government should step in. Human lives are so precious to be wasted in this gruesome manner.

 THE KANO MASSACRE

"Agriculture is one of the most significant opportunities in Nigeria today as the government looks to reverse current situation of high importation and low yield to encourage more efficient domestic agricultural output", these were words of a Professor of Marketing and International Business at the Clayton State University, Prof. Alphonso Ogbuehi during his presentation at the ongoing Imo State Business Forum in Atlanta, Georgia.
Prof. Ogbuehi in his presentation titled: "Why Do Business In Nigeria", told audiences that Nigeria imported $4 Billion worth of wheat, $2 Billion of rice, $1.4 Billion of sugar, and $1 Billion of fish just in 2012 to show that it has potentials in the Agriculture Sector.
He added that the federal government of Nigeria was aggressively seeking the participation of the private sector by changing the philosophy where agriculture was being run as a business. He also stressed that the government also changed the philosophy of where money could be made as opposed to a government driven development effort as was the case in the past.
The US-based scholar pressed further that in the Retail Space, Nigeria was being transformed with the advent of modern supermarkets and departments stores targeting the growing middle class. "Shoprite hopes to have more stores in Nigeria than South Africa where if has more than 700 stores. By the end of 2013, KFC will grow from less than 10 stores to more than 30. It has 600 stores in South Africa" he noted.
Prof. Ogbuehi concluded that the hospitality space in Nigeria was exploding with upscale properties targeting the business and leisure markets, where occupancy rates were between 80-85% compared to 60% in South Africa.
In a response, the National President of the Imo State Congress, USA, Mr. Felix NNaji, said that the government was working to bring lots of foreign investors to the state, saying that such would greatly develop the economic growth of the South Eastern state.
Mr. Nnaji added that bringing foreign investors to Imo state would create employment for unemployed youths. He noted that creating employment would reduce crime rates in the region to the minimum level.
He however lauded Governor Rochas Okorocha for his focus on education, infrastructure, health and economic development.
